Crickets

Identification | They have somewhat flattened bodies and long antennae with about 3/4-inch long. They have three dark bands with the body color in yellowish-brown.

Habitat | Crickets are active at night and chirping. The chirp (which only male crickets can do) is generated by raising the left hind leg to a 45-degree angle and rubbing it against the edge of the right hind leg

Food Source | Omnivores and scavengers feeding on organic materials, as well as decaying plant material, fungi, and some seedling plants.

Life Cycle
| Crickets mate in late summer and lay their eggs in the fall. The eggs hatch in the spring and have been estimated to number as high as 2,000 per fertile female.[citation needed] Subspecies Acheta Domestica however lays eggs almost continually, with the females capable of laying at least twice a month. Female crickets have a long needlelike egg-laying organ called an ovipositor.

Additional | Crickets are known to carry a large number of diseases, most of which cause painful sores but are not fatal to humans. Disease can be spread through their feces, bite, or physical contact.
